I've been shooting corporate video in London for seven years. That covers everything from FTSE 100 internal communications to product launches to talking-head interview series for LinkedIn distribution. The brief is almost always the same in its vagueness: "broadcast quality." And the studio booking conversation that follows is almost always the same in its specifics: a client or producer who doesn't know exactly what that means, a studio that claims to have it without specifying what "it" is, and a day's shoot that gets sorted out on the day through improvisation rather than preparation.

Here's what broadcast quality actually means in practice. And what London studios charge for it.

What 'broadcast quality' means — and what it doesn't

In the context of UK television broadcast, there are genuine technical specifications for picture and audio quality. The OFCOM broadcast technical code references minimum standards; broadcast distributors (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky) each have their own delivery specifications that go into significant technical detail about video codec, bit rate, audio levels, colour space and frame rate.

In the context of a corporate video for internal distribution, "broadcast quality" usually means: looks like it could be on the BBC rather than filmed on someone's phone. That's a much lower bar — and it's achievable in any studio with proper lighting, a competent camera operator, and a basic audio setup.

The distinction matters because it affects which studio you need. A genuine broadcast-spec studio — one set up for live broadcast, satellite uplink, multi-camera switched output to a broadcast distribution network — is a very specific and expensive facility. A studio that will produce video that looks broadcast-quality is simply one with good, consistent lighting and a clean audio environment. Most well-specced London photography and video studios do the second thing perfectly well. Almost none of them do the first.

The setup that actually produces good corporate video

For a standard corporate talking-head interview series — the most common brief I get — the studio requirements are quite specific and not actually that demanding:

A background. This is most of the aesthetic. White infinity cove, branded set, natural materials — whatever the brief calls for. The studio needs to be able to accommodate it physically and the ceiling needs to be high enough to light it from above without the rig being visible in a wide shot.
Two or three-light setup for the subject. A key light, fill and back/hair light. For interview work I typically run two Aputure LS 600d Pro heads (≤720W each) with large modifiers and a smaller Godox AD600 as a back light. That's around 2kW continuous when everything's running.
Clean audio environment. This is the one most studios underestimate. The ambient noise in a London studio — traffic, HVAC, the building's mechanical systems — is almost always worse than it sounds on a site visit. Ask for the noise floor measurement. Ask whether the HVAC can be switched off for takes. Ask what the adjacent tenancy is (a print shop running industrial machinery at 130dB through a partition wall will make your audio unusable).
A prompter setup if the talent is scripted. Most studios can accommodate a teleprompter on the front of the camera, but the camera position and lens length matter for whether the talent can read it comfortably — something worth discussing on the studio visit, not discovering on the morning of the shoot.

The background options and what they cost

White infinity cove: the corporate default. Clean, neutral, flexible in post — you can grade it to any shade of off-white or use it for a colour-wash practical effect. Most serious London studios have a cove. The relevant question is whether the cove is big enough for your setup: a talking head with a wide establishing shot needs more floor depth than a tight interview framing. Ask for the dimensions specifically.

Branded set: more expensive to produce, but often what a corporate brief actually calls for when you get into the detail. If the client wants a set that reflects their brand environment — a desk, their physical brand colours, product placements — you're building that yourself or using a studio with set-build infrastructure. Budget for set build time (often a half-day before the shoot day) and set break-down (usually a few hours after wrap).

Natural environment: some corporate video briefs work best not in a studio at all, but in a natural environment — a real office, a factory floor, an outdoor location. This is out of scope for studio hire but worth flagging because the answer to "what studio do we need" is sometimes "we don't need a studio."

London studio options for corporate video in 2026

The corporate video studio market in London sits in three tiers.

The first tier is the broadcast and production facility — MediaCityUK equivalent in London, or the major studios in Battersea, Borehamwood and the west London film belt. These are facilities with satellite uplink, multi-camera infrastructure, gallery space, and production teams on site. Rates start from £1,500–£3,000+VAT per day for the studio space alone. You're paying for broadcast engineering infrastructure that most corporate video briefs don't need.

The second tier is the purpose-built corporate video studio — a space designed specifically for interview and corporate production, with integrated teleprompter infrastructure, a proper acoustic treatment, a range of background set options, and a production team available by the hour. These are increasingly common in London, concentrated in the West End (W1, EC1 area) and in the east London production belt. Day rates for this type of space run £600–£1,000+VAT, usually including basic lighting and sometimes a production assistant.

The third tier is the general photography/video studio hired for a corporate brief — the most common scenario. A well-specced studio in Hackney, Bermondsey, or the West End that's used primarily for photography and fashion video, hired for a corporate talking-head day because the space, light control and power supply are what you need regardless of brief. This is where I spend most of my time. Day rates: £350–£650+VAT depending on location, size, and what's included.

Audio: the spec you can't compromise

I've spent more time in post-production fixing audio recorded in bad studio environments than fixing anything else. The visual quality of corporate video has improved dramatically — decent cameras are everywhere, LED lighting is accessible and affordable — but audio is still the thing that gives away a cheap production.

The specific asks for a corporate video studio:

Can the HVAC system be isolated during takes? A building's air handling system running at 40dB in the background is audible in a quiet interview recording, especially at the pauses. Many studios can't switch it off because the whole building shares the system.
What are the adjacent tenancies? Music rehearsal rooms, print works, machine shops — all of these leak through walls in ways that matter for audio.
What is the ambient noise level in the studio? A figure in dB is more useful than "it's very quiet." If they don't know, that tells you something.
Is there acoustic treatment on the walls, or is it a bare echo box? Concrete floors and brick walls in an industrial studio look great on camera. They also create reflections that make speech recording technically challenging.

The quietest corporate video spaces I've used in London are purpose-built studios with floating floors (mechanically decoupled from the building structure) and acoustic panels on at least two walls. These are rare and worth finding if audio quality is critical to your brief.

The equipment hire question

Some London studios include a basic lighting package in the day rate. For corporate video, "basic lighting package" usually means a couple of LED panels and stands — adequate for a vlog, genuinely limiting for a properly lit interview setup. If you need the look of a properly produced corporate video, bring your own lighting or be very specific about what the studio's kit package includes.

The kit I'd specify for a standard corporate talking-head shoot: two large softboxes (1.2m x 1.2m minimum) on proper stands with adequate weight capability, a hair/back light with a smaller modifier, and an overhead or kicker position for depth. That rig doesn't require exotic equipment — Godox AD600 heads or equivalent will do it perfectly well — but it does require a studio with enough power on dedicated circuits to run it.
